Accounts

1.  You will need your LAUSD account and a Google Account.  Here is how to get started with both.

A.  Make sure your @lausd.net account is in good working order.

If you get frustrated with how LAUSD constantly makes you change your password, checkout this slide-deck that gives you some tips on how you can use a single root password with a suffix or prefix and never forget a password again.

B.  Understand which Google Account is best for you (GMail Vs. Google Account)

Option 1 (Official LAUSD recommendation).  A Google account is a single sign-on to google services and can be based on what ever email service you use.  Keep your current personal email.  We can make a Google Account with your "@lausd.net" account

Option 2 (Teacher recommended). A GMail account is an enhanced Google Account and includes Google's email platform and ends in "@gmail.com".  You can add your "@lausd.net" account to your Gmail account to make sharing docs easy.  You can even use Gmail to manage your LAUSD email and avoid the dreaded "your inbox is full" message.

If you are happy with your personal email, don't change it.  If your frustrated by your personal email, gmail is worth checking out.

C.  Creating a Google Account or Gmail account (skip this if you already have a Google Account or Gmail account)

1.  Teachers should set up a Google account at http://www.drive.google.com .
Account should be set up using your LAUSD e-mail address (see photo below).  Do not sign up for a gmail account.
Click on the words "I prefer to use my current e-mail address" then enter your LAUSD e-mail address.
Drive Account Photo
Towards the bottom of the page agree to Google's privacy policy (or they will not create your account).
Do not allow Google to use your account information or you will be taken to a Google Plus page that is not necessary for this account.

This process is instantaneous.

D. Linking '@lausd.net' to your Google Account or Gmail

If you just created a Google Account with your "@lausd.net" account, you are done and can move on.

If you have your own Gmail or Google Account not associated to your @LAUSD.net account:

"If you have a Google profile (Gmail or Google Account), at the top of your Edit profile page, you'll see the domains of all your verified email addresses associated with your account. Select the domains you'd like to display on your profile (keep in mind that we won't display your full email addresses), and save your changes."

Congratulations you have the two accounts you need and they are linked together.

Cool feature, make gmail fetch your @lausd.net email and never have the dreaded "your inbox is full" message.
